Spa's in the UK are wonderful but if you're looking for something a little further afield then the wait is over.

We have chosen some of the most highly recommended spa's from around the world from Austria to Vegas so if that tickles your fancy then read on...

Chiva Som - Hua Hin, Thailand

Chiva-Som is a luxury health resort, combining international standards with Thai values and beliefs to deliver personal wellness programmes in a positive, non regimented way. Everything they do focuses on a holistic approach to health that incorporates mind, body and spirit.

One of the great things about Chiva some is that e very guest, on arrival, is assigned a Health & Wellness advisor (a qualified natural health practitioner) who spends time planning the best personal programme combining classes, lectures and treatments, and advice on the best choice of Chiva-Som spa food!

The Mayr Clinic - Dellach, Austria

If your idea of heaven is relaxing on the shores of Lake Wörth in the spectacular Carinthian mountains of southern Austria, twenty minutes from Klagenfurt Airport, in an Austrian chalet surrounded by beautiful meadows and woodlands then the Mayr Clinic is for you!

In addition to the health programme, the hotel has many other leisure activities for guests to enjoy including saunas, steam rooms, a solarium, tennis courts, a gymnasium and the use of bicycles for those wishing to explore the lovely countryside. I'm relaxed just thinking about it!

Les Sources de Caudalie - Martillac, France

If you want some serious relaxation then there's no better place to go than around the vines of the Château Smith Haut Lafitte located near Bordeaux. This is where the 1st Vinothérapie® Spa was created by CAUDALIE offering a programme of exclusive treatments based on the benefits of vines and grapes in an environment of rare beauty.

The beauty of Caudalie is that if you're just in the region you can make a regular appointment but if want to make something really special out of your weekend then you can also book either a two or three day stay!

Therme Vals - Vals, Switzerland

With the only thermal spring in Graubünden, the Therme Spa is a stunning landmark built from 60 000 stone slabs of Valser quarzite for you to luxuriate and rediscover the ancient benefits of bathing in. Of course it wouldn't be a first-rate spa if it didn't have a wellness centre, which it does, where you can have treatments focusing on relaxation and pampering.

The focus here is on the thermal spring so there's an endless number of pools to relax in including the harmony pool and the fire pool to name but two. This spa is part of a beautiful hotel so for a fabulous break away keep Theme Vals in mind.

Spa Bellagio - Las Vegas, US

If you've never been to Vegas or been inside the Bellagio then let me offer this little tip - bring your cheque book. The Bellagio is an incredible hotel but it does come at a price, for example, a 50 minute massage will set you back nearly £100!

But, if that all sounds perfectly acceptable to you then it is a must when you're in town. The spa offers a full complement of therapeutic and rejuvenating facial and body care treatments and guests may choose among a variety of worldly treatments and therapies including Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, Water Massage, Indian Head Massage and Thai Yoga Massage.
